Credo Oyaro was a 17-year-old student from Sugunanga Estate in Kesses Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. He was among the victims of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, which saw widespread demonstrations across the country.

Background

Credo was a Form Four student at Kapsoya Secondary School in Eldoret and had aspirations of becoming a professional footballer. Raised by his grandmother, Beatrice Akinyi Omolo, after losing his mother at a young age, Credo was described as a polite, honest, and industrious boy with a bright future.

Death During Protests

On **25 June 2024**, Credo was shot in the head by police during a peaceful protest near Timba XO Club in Eldoret. He was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) but succumbed to his injuries the following day. Eyewitnesses reported that Credo was standing outside the club, observing the police's response to looters, when he was shot from within the club premises.

Aftermath

Credo's death has left his family devastated. His grandmother, Beatrice Akinyi Omolo, expressed immense grief and called for justice. The incident has also shocked his school community, where he was a top student and athlete. The school's counseling department continues to support his friends and peers, who are struggling to come to terms with his loss.

Burial

Credo was laid to rest on **7 July 2024** at his mother's rural home in Mahanda Arude village, Yala Sub-County, Siaya County.
