Convention Against Torture (CAT)
Kenya ratified the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) in 1997, committing to prevent and punish acts of torture and ill-treatment by public officials.
- Article 1: Torture is defined as any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted by or at the instigation of a public official for purposes such as obtaining information, punishment, or intimidation.
