Chris (Muriithi) Gitonga was a young resident of Nanyuki, estimated to be between 19โ€“22 years old, who was shot and killed by police on **26 June 2024** during the nationwide antiโ€‘Finance Bill protests in Kenya.

Incident & Death

Chris was shot during the escalating unrest following protests against the Finance Bill 2024. His death is confirmed in civic reports and protest casualty lists.

Burial & Public Response

On **6 July 2024**, human rights activist Boniface Mwangi attended burials at Langโ€™ata Cemetery. He placed a Kenyan flag on the coffin of Andrew Mwawasi and urged Kenyans to do the same for other slain protestersโ€”Chris Gitongaโ€™s casket, however, was not draped. Mwangiโ€™s plea drew attention to the symbolic recognition of those who died.
