Moses Tobiko (died 7 July 2025) was a 19‑year‑old Kenyan civilian who was among six people killed in **Kajiado County** during the Saba Saba Day protests in 2025.

Background

The Saba Saba Day protests in 2025 were part of a wave of youth-led demonstrations across Kenya, protesting against corruption, poor governance, and police brutality. Demonstrations were held in multiple counties including Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kiambu, and Kajiado.

Death

On 7 July 2025, Moses Tobiko was shot and killed in **Kitengela**, Kajiado County. According to human rights organizations and eyewitnesses, plainclothes and masked police in unmarked vehicles opened fire on demonstrators and bystanders in areas such as Kitengela, Ngong, and Kiserian.

Postmortem conducted at Saitoti Funeral homes, Nkaimurunya Ward showed that the bullet hit his body from the left side, raptured his heart and exited on the right side.

Aftermath

Human rights groups including Haki Africa and Amnesty International Kenya condemned the killings and called for independent investigations. In particular, attention was drawn to the presence of masked gunmen in unmarked Subarus, a tactic previously associated with unlawful police actions.

Legacy

Moses Tobiko has been named among dozens of victims whose deaths during the 2025 Saba Saba protests sparked nationwide and international calls for justice, accountability, and urgent reform of Kenya’s policing and governance systems.
