Geoffrey Mugendi, a 40-year-old father of two and professional roofer, was shot by police during the 2025 Saba Saba Protests while seeking safety in Kiambu. Though he was not actively protesting, he was struck by a bullet allegedly fired by a police officer dispersing demonstrators.

According to his friend Melkizedik Mchasia:
βKidogo kidogo nilianza kuskia risasi, askari alitoka akanishootβ¦ lakini ikapiga rafiki yangu Geoffrey.β (βLittle by little I began to hear gunshots, a police officer came and shot meβ¦ but it hit my friend Geoffrey.β)
The gunshot caused critical damage, and Geoffreyβs leg was amputated at Kenyatta National Hospital.

His wife, speaking to local media, described the devastating aftermath:
βMume wangu amerudi kuwa kama mtotoβ¦ Hawezi tusaidia tena.β (βMy husband has returned to being like a childβ¦ He can't support us anymore.β)
The family condemned remarks by national leaders, including the President, that encouraged shooting protestors in the leg.
