Ian Muhindi (died June 25, 2025) was a Kenyan resident of Juja, Kiambu County, who tragically died after being hit by a stray bullet during the Gen Z memorial protests in 2025. Muhindi was reportedly observing the protests peacefully from his rooftop when he was fatally wounded by a stray bullet fired amid the unrest.

Incident

On June 25, 2025, Ian Muhindi was watching the Gen Z memorial protests from his home rooftop in Juja. Despite not participating in the demonstrations, he was struck in the head by a stray bullet, causing him to fall from the rooftop. A friend rushed him to Avenue Hospital in Thika, but the journey was hindered by protesters along the way. He was later referred to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

Reactions

Muhindiโ€™s death sparked widespread outrage across Kenya, with many questioning the use of force by police during the protests and raising concerns about the safety of innocent bystanders during such events. Public figures, human rights activists, and community members condemned the circumstances leading to his death, calling for justice and accountability.

Human rights organizations emphasized the need for stringent measures to prevent the loss of innocent lives during protests and urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
