UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)

Kenya ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1990, committing to protect the rights and welfare of all children within its jurisdiction. The CRC includes specific protections relevant to protests and law enforcement actions:

  • Article 6: Every child has the inherent right to life.
  • Article 37: No child shall be subjected to torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, or unlawful deprivation of liberty.

🚫 Violation: The use of lethal force or arbitrary arrests against minors (under 18 years old) during protests constitutes a breach of the CRC and international child protection standards.
