African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Banjul Charter)

Kenya ratified the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights in 1992, committing to uphold human rights obligations under the regional human rights system.

  • Article 4: Right to life and integrity of the person.
  • Article 5: Protection from cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment.
  • Article 11: Right to assemble freely with others.

🚫 Violation: Acts of violence by security forces against demonstrators constitute a breach of Kenya's obligations under the African Charter and undermine regional human rights protections.
