Chris (Muriithi) Gitonga was a young resident of Nanyuki, estimated to be between 19–22 years old, who was shot and killed by police on **26 June 2024** during the nationwide anti‑Finance Bill protests in Kenya.

Burial & Public Response

On **6 July 2024**, human rights activist Boniface Mwangi attended burials at Lang’ata Cemetery. He placed a Kenyan flag on the coffin of Andrew Mwawasi and urged Kenyans to do the same for other slain protesters—Chris Gitonga’s casket, however, was not draped. Mwangi’s plea drew attention to the symbolic recognition of those who died.
