We document so that Kenya may never forget — and never repeat. For truth. For justice. For remembrance.

At WikiZetu, we are committed to documenting Kenya's history through the lens of its people — especially where justice, truth, and remembrance are at stake. This includes the use of images and personal stories of victims of state violence, protests, or public injustices.

Purpose of Image Use

Images and names featured on this platform are published in good faith, with the following aims:

To preserve the memory of lives lost or harmed during protests or government actions;
To inform the public and future generations about critical moments in Kenya’s civic and political history;
To support calls for justice, accountability, and reform through accurate, public-interest documentation;
To honour and humanize the individuals behind the headlines and beyond social media posts.

Legal Basis

The publication of these images and stories is carried out in accordance with:

The **Constitution of Kenya**, 2010 — Article 33 (Freedom of Expression) and Article 34 (Freedom of the Media);
The **Data Protection Act**, 2019 — specifically Section 51, which permits the use of personal data without consent for public interest, academic, journalistic, literary, or historical purposes;
International human rights standards that uphold truth-telling, historical justice, and the public’s right to know.

Use of Publicly Available Images

Most images featured here originate from:

Public events, news coverage, or social media shared in the context of civic demonstrations;
Family-sanctioned tributes, funerals, and memorials published in the public domain;
Credible media and human rights reports.

Respect for Dignity

We take all possible measures to ensure:

That content is respectful and fact-based;
That images are not altered, sensationalized, or used for entertainment or commercial gain;
That underage victims are used if already publicly shared (e.g. on media or by family on social platforms).

Family and Survivor Requests

If you are a family member or representative of someone featured and wish to:

Request the removal of a photo or personal information;
Correct or update details;
Share an authorized tribute;
