Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, outlines fundamental human rights to be universally protected. Kenya, as a UN member state, is obligated to uphold these rights through its laws and practices.
- Article 3: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”
- Article 19: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
- Article 20: Everyone has the right to peaceful assembly and association.
🚫 Violation: Ordering or carrying out the use of live bullets against unarmed civilians constitutes a grave violation of the right to life and the right to peaceful assembly. Such actions undermine the core values enshrined in the UDHR and erode public trust in law enforcement and governance.
