Dancun Onsongo (also spelled Duncan Onsongo) was a 26โyearโold fruit vendor from Amabuko subโlocation in Kisii County. He was reported missing on 2 July 2024, after participating in youth-led protests in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
Disappearance & Discovery
Onsongo was last seen in Mlolongo on 2 July 2024 as the protests spread beyond Nairobi. His family searched hospitals and police stations for days. On 5 July 2024, his body was found at Nairobi City Mortuary, showing burns on the face and chestโlikely from a tear gas canister explosion. [1] [2]

Onsongo was the firstborn of ten children. His mother, Grace Kwamboka, described him as the family's breadwinner. His father, William Nyakundi, said high living costs pushed him to join the protests. [3] The family criticized the government for not acknowledging the death and demanded justice. [4]
