Ibrahim Kamau Wanjiku (c.β―2005β―ββ―25 June 2024) was a 19-year-old Kenyan youth who was shot and killed during the anti-Finance Bill protests in Nairobi.
Death during Protests
On **25 June 2024**, Ibrahim was among thousands of demonstrators who stormed the Kenyan Parliament Building in Nairobi to protest the passing of the Finance Bill 2024. During the protests, police opened fire on the crowd, resulting in Ibrahim being shot twice in the neck. He was later confirmed dead at City Mortuary in Nairobi.
Funeral and Family Response
Ibrahim's funeral took place on **28 June 2024** at Kariokor Cemetery in Nairobi. His mother, **Edith Wanjiku**, expressed profound grief over the loss of her son, who had aspirations of becoming an electrical engineer. The burial was attended by family, friends, and community members, including Member of Parliament for Kamukunji, **Yusuf Hassan**, who condemned the killing and emphasized that protests are a constitutional right.
Legal and Human Rights Response
Human rights organizations, including Haki Africa, have petitioned the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to investigate the deaths that occurred during the anti-government protests.
